Weather or Stress?

Weather, weather, weather. Why does it at times overwhelm us? Ever go somewhere where the subject is of course weather? Ever go outside and what do we see? Weather.

Everytime I boo hoo about the long couple of months of unpredictable weather I think of my family and friends in Iowa and Minnesota. Wow they have been hit with snow after snow every week.
There is such a thing called Winter depression or "seasonal affective disorder" known as SAD. It involves brain chemicals, ions in the air, and genetics. These people are particularly sensitive to light, or the lack of it.
Each day most of us get up, get going and meet the day whether sunny or cold. What I have noticed about this time of year (other than the weather) is that the biggest culprit of our spirits is stress. On a normal day you do your duties than a bombshell hits you. Your job has piled up the demands. The children are asking the impossible. A loved one has died. The list is endless. We don't think about the weather at these times, do we?
The only companion it seems is our inner voice going over and over the same scenario that has defeated us. So what happens? Your immune system tumbles and then the dreaded sickness creeps in. So on top of stress, a maddening voice in your head, you now are sluggish, sick and very tired.
I am a person of faith, so I do a lot of praying and soul searching. I also diffuse oils, take tinctures and try to eat healthy. So why do I end up sick? Stress!
This cycle can happen over and over. What are we to do? Whatever works defeating stress. Our immune system is a wonderful unit within us to keep us healthy. When it is compromised that is when the downhill battle begins.
I often take this down time of sickness to rest and reflect on things in my life. If we take the battles with grace they are easier to get through. The best advice I know is to avoid stress. I know it's almost impossible. But each of us needs to find an easier way to handle the stress that comes at us.
Looking back I have realized many things to change this time of year before I end up in the stress vacuum. Exercise, better diet, more water and finding means for preventative. That could mean natural medicine or just walking away from the craziness.
Say it with me: "I promise to exercise (well maybe), eat a healthy diet (most of the time) drink water and slather myself with wellness" Woo Hoo we can do this!
