I am starting the year with blogging about different essential oils or herbs. Many of them are part of my first aid kit.
For 2019 we will begin with Lemon. 75 lemons are required to make one 15-ml bottle of Lemon essential oil. It is safe for ages 2+, through pregnancy, breastfeeding, for dogs, but not cats.
I picked lemon because I have recommended it to quite a few people over the holidays. This oil is my "go to" for most of my throat issues. If I have an itchy or sore throat starting, I will gargle with Lemon essential oil and salt water throughout the day. I only use an oil that can be ingested. Read the label on the bottle to see if it can be used in that way.
Many of us remember the lemon smells in some cleaning products. Some chock full of lemon fragrance that smelled fake and caused all kinds of coughing and unknown effects. Lemon essential oil is a great additive to distilled water to spray on most surfaces to get them squeaky clean. It can be diffused to help combat any airborne crud or smell.
Other great uses for this oil is for varicose veins, poor circulation, indigestion, bloating, gas, poor digestion, parasites, infection, inflammation, virus, spasm, cramp, congestion, bronchitis, pneumonia, tuberculosis, whooping cough, bacterial infection, athlete's foot, eczema, psoriasis, fungal infection, wrinkles, scar, cut, and wounds. (this list is not intended to diagnose and may not completely eliminate the problem.)
Diffuse Lemon for a boost of cheer that creates a sense of focus and motivation.
Safe for CAT? NO Plant part used: fruit peel Add Lemon to skin care products to help reduce the appearance of aging. Use it to help remove adhesives.
Keep some real lemons on hand because the are loaded with healthy benefits. They're a great source of vitamin C. Cut up a lemon and put it in your ice cube trays for a quick add to a glass of water. Grate the peel and store it in the freezer, It can be a great flavor boost for any casserole. I have dried slices of lemon in my dehydrator to use for decorations. This can be done in your oven also.
Bottom line there are many benefits to having lemons and it's essential oil in your healthy tool kit.
