Non-Toxic Cleaning Supplies

My essential oil world started with using them in cleaning supplies. I was tired of using an off the shelf cleaner that made my eyes water or have coughing spells.
When I looked up different recipes I was amazed at how simple it was to make. Another plus was that I had most of the products on my shelf.
Here are a few tricks to help you on your cleaning journey:
1. All Purpose Cleaner - Mix a few drops of a natural liquid soap, 2 cups distilled water and 15 drops each of Tea Tree & Lavender essential oils. You can spray this on most surfaces. Don't use this on glass because it will streak.
2. Orange peel Cleaner - This is a fun "experiment" to try. Use a mason jar and fill it with your orange peel. Fill the jar with vinegar and let it sit for 3 weeks. Pour the vinegar into a spray bottle along with some distilled water. I kinda wing the measurements, but you can get the exact ones online if you want. I use this cleaner for my bathroom and the shine it leaves is amazing. If you don't like the smell of vinegar you can add some essential oil to it. Throw the soaked orange peels in the garbage disposal to clean it as well!
3. Musty smell - If the smell is from a closed container, put some crumpled newspaper in it and let it sit for a week. The paper should absorb the smell. If there is some smell lingering fill a spray bottle with distilled water and a few drops of tea tree essential oil. Leave it open to dry.
4. Microwave - Place a bowl of vinegar and 15 drops of tea tree essential oil in the microwave. Heat for about 2 minutes. Wipe it out with a cloth.
5. Burnt or fishy kitchen smells - Use an old pie plate for this. Sprinkle the pan with cinnamon, nutmeg and a dash of orange essential oil. Place in the warm oven and let it sit as the oven cools. Everyone will wonder what you are baking!
This is a great start to your using your essential oil for cleaning. Tea Tree seems to be a popular oil to use. That is because it helps fights against bacteria and fungus. If you don't like the smell add some lavender to it. They make a great combo.
